Number of aspirants jostling for All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential ticket ahead of next year’s general elections has reduced by one as the Governor of Central Bank, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele has rejected the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms procured for him by the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, RFAN.

Mr. Emefiele, who has been under pressure to enter the 2023 presidential race in rejecting the forms said that should he decide to enter the fray that he would use his personal resources garnered over the years in banking to so do.

He also said that the next few days would determine whether he would enter the murky water of politics.

With this development, other presidential aspirants seeking to fly the parties ticket at the 2023 presidential polls include, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Rotimi Amaechii, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Sen. Chris Ngige, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, Sen. Ibikunle Amosu, Pst. Tunde Bakare, Com. Adams Oshiomole, Prof. Ben Ayade, Gov. Dave Umahi and Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Others are Emeka Nwajiuba, Sen. Ken Nnamani, Yahaya Bello, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, Gov. Badaru, Ahmed Sani Yerima, Ajayi Borriface, Mrs Uji Ohnenye, Pastor Nicholas Felix Nwagbo and Dimeji Bankole.

Recall the CBN governor has been under pressure from several groups to enter the fray to give credibility and sustenance of the economic agenda of the outgoing Buhari administration.

Rejecting the forms quietly procured on Friday morning, Emefiele said, “I am humbled by the growing interest of those asking that I run for the Office of President in the 2023 general elections: I have not come to that decision.

“I note and salute the sacrifices of those farmers and patriots going as far as raising personal funds and offering me Presidential Nomination Forms: I thank them most profusely.

“However, Should I answer their calls and decide to seek presidential nomination, I will use my own hard earned savings from over 35 years of banking leadership to buy my own nomination forms, without proxies in an open and transparent manner in full compliance with the laws and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“And should I not run for elected office, I will continue to serve and sacrifice for the good people of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is a serious decision that requires God’s Divine intervention: in the next few days The Almighty will so direct’.
