How Delta Gov. Okowa emerged as Atiku’s running mate

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

Atiku made the announcement Thursday in Abuja at a meeting attended by members of the party’s National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, PDP Governors Forum, at the National Executive Committee Hall of the party’s National Secretariat.

He explained that the decision to choose one out of the number of eminently qualified candidates who are serving governors on the party’s platform.

According to him, “It is a difficult decision but I am not afraid of taking difficult decisions. I wish I could name all of them as my running mates but I have to chose one.

“It is my privilege to name someone who has legislative and executive experience, it is my Honour to name Governor Ifianyi Okowa as my running mate for the 2023 elections. “

National Chairman of the party, Iyiochia Ayu, later presented Okowa with the relevant INEC forms to fill and return today.

Governor Okowa, in his acceptance speech, predicted a land slide victory for the party in 2023 presidential election.
