The Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Chief Umana Umana has denied the allegation that he was planning to counter the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s position on the implementation of the recommendations of the report of the Forensic Audit into the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission,NDDC.
The minister made the rebuttal via a statement issued by Ms. Patricia Deworitshe, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, while reacting to a newspaper publication on Thursday in Abuja.
Recall a national newspaper had published report, alleging that there was a plot by the minister to halt the phased implementation of the forensic audit report of the NDDC as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari, in order to pave way for a review of the recommendations.
But Ms. Deworitshe said that there was no truth in the claim, adding that some unscrupulous elements were only trying to cause a further crisis in the Niger-Delta.
The Federal Ministry of Niger-Delta Affairs said that there is no truth in the claim that there are plans to review the forensic audit report contrary to the orders of the President.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, has been drawn to a news report in a national newspaper, published on Thursday, 11 August 2022, which claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister, Mr Umana, have divergent positions on the implementation of the recommendations of the report of the Forensic Audit into the operations of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
“The news report is completely untrue and therefore misleading. There is no basis for any claim that the minister has a position on the Forensic Audit Report that is different from that of the President.
“All stakeholders in the development of the Niger Delta region and the public at large are hereby advised to disregard the said news report as totally untrue and baseless.”
