FG, UK to partner on empowerment of N-Delta youths in agriculture, others

The Federal Government will partner with the United Kingdom to empower Niger-Delta youths and women in agriculture development and environmental planning, Minister of State, Niger Delta Affairs, Mrs. Sharon Ikeazor, has said

Mrs. Ikeazor stated this in Abuja after a meeting with the Country Lead of UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transition), Mr Joe Tyrell and the Head of Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (Nigeria), Ms. Sally Woolhouse.

The minister according to a statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Niger-Delta Affairs, Patricia Deworitshe, said the collaboration would change the living condition of the people of the South-South region.

Ikeazor was quoted as saying that “The collaborative efforts between the Ministry and the British High Commission is to reposition the Niger Delta region for economic empowerment, job creation and sustained livelihood for women and youths in the region.”

While stressing the importance of ecosystem protection and conservation in the Niger Delta region, she added that the opportunities advanced by sustainable land use and commodity trade in the region cannot be neglected.

In his remarks, the Country Lead, UK PACT, Joe Tyrell, said the British High Commission was ready to partner with the Federal Government, especially in the areas of agriculture development and environmental planning.

He explained further that they were currently undertaking a programme tagged ‘Integrated Land Management’ for the benefit of the Niger Delta region.
