Pained by avalanche of flood ravaging some parts of the country, a House of Representatives candidate under the platform of National Rescue Movement, NRM, CT. Esanerovo Agbodo, has called on the Federal Government to find a permanent solution to this yearly menace, which he said has resulted in death of many innocent people and destruction of property.

Agbodo, who raised the concern through a statement made available to newsmen, charged the government to be proactive and do the needful to prevent any problem envisaged in the nearest future.

He suggested that if building a Dam as agreed in the agreement with the government of Cameroon will bring about the solution, the Federal Government should urgently act on it.

He said we cannot labour and wait for flood to destroy all we have laboured for.

Agbodohe who is seeking to represent Isoko North / Isoko South Federal Constituency in Delta State at the House of Representatives candidate, lamented the magnitude of havoc wrecked on Isoko land by the flood.

He particularly called on Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to
put in place all emergency responses in place to save the people in Isoko land and other parts of the state.

The statement he titled, “How long will we continue to run away from our homes?”, reads;”There is a beginning and an end to everything but this incessant water flooding that drives our people from their homes and destroy their livelihood has no end in sight going by what we are experiencing across the country.

“If the problem is because of the release of water from Cameroon, why is it that we have not been able to find a permanent solution to it.

“Almost 60 percent of Isoko land have been affected by this natural disaster and my people are currently displaced from their families and livelihood. The real effect of this calamity on our people will only be known after head counts when the flood subsides.

“The Lokoja axis is now a no go area. Vehicles especially heavy duty vehicles responsible for fuel distribution across the country as well as for conveyance of other essential goods are stalk and some even stay on one spot for almost a week.

“Fuel scarcity and inflation is the order of the day today in Nigeria, adding salt to injury already caused by the mismanagement of the economy by both the federal and state governments.

“Where do we go from here?
I want to strongly appeal to the federal government to do all it can as Nigeria is losing daily the more this problem keep recurring year in, year out.

“If it is building a Dam as agreed in the agreement with the government of Cameroon, so be it. We cannot labour and wait for flood to destroy all we have laboured for.

“Back home, the Delta State government should put all emergency responses in place to save our people in Isoko land and other parts of the state.

“Monies should be made available immediately to sucour the effect of this flood on our people to provide relief materials and for resettlement once the flood subsides.

“We need to be proactive and do the needful ahead of any problem envisaged in the future. This fire brigade approach to serious issues like this is totally unacceptable.”
