A foremost activist and former youth leader in the Niger Delta region, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha has issued stern warning to the striking members of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, against been used as instrument to truncate the country’s hard earned democracy.
Alhaji Unagha, who spoke at a press conference to react to the two-day warning strike embarked by the NLC, said the frequent strikes and protest by the Union is an invitation to military coup d’etat.
Unagha , however, threatened to roll out drums in the streets of Nigeria to checkmate the activities of the union should they continue on the act of sabotaging the government.
According to him, “There is no doubt, that the Nigerian Labour Congress has declared a two days warning strike in the guise of the subsidy removal by the federal government of Nigeria, of President Tinubu.
“I appreciate the fact that there is hardship in the country. Of course, that is not enough to truncate the hard earned democracy some of us suffered for.
“The government has extended its olive hands to the Union which the Union embrace.
“The action of the labour Union is condemnable, as. they are not for the interest of the ordinary citizens of the nation as they are being sponsored by politicians to scuttle the democracy.
“They should tell Nigerians their special interest why the constantly protest and strikes.
“The leadership of the labour Union and its affiliates are members of a political party, therefore cannot hold the nation from moving forward pretending to defend Nigerians We are tired of the frequent strikes and protest.
“The labour Union should not be used as instrument of inviting the military in disguise that Nigerian are not prepared for democratic government.
“I advised that they should go to the drawing board for renegotiation and dialogue with the federal government. what the Labour Union is doing is creating or inflicting more hardship to what the people are already passing through.
“The are not representing the over 200 million Nigerians.
“Should they continue on the act of sabotaging the government, we shall not hastate to roll out drums in the streets of Nigeria if their activities not checked.
“I called on the labour Union and other anti-government agencies wanting to arm twist our democracy to have a rethink, they wii not achieve any with strike.
“We should all join hands to build the nation. The labour Union is seems to be agent of distabilisation.
