Co ordinator of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Wordwide in charge of 19 Northern States and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Bar Augustine Chigozie Amechi has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu without further delay.

The Igbo leader said the immediate release of the IPOB leader which was incarcerated by the Buhari’s regime will end insecurity, brutality, and agitation in the South East region.

Speaking to journalists , the human right Lawyer said if the federal government wants peace and development of the South East it should immediately release Kanu from detention, adding that his continued incarceration has become a metaphor where it is used by unscrupulous elements to cause mayhem in the region.

Amechi said ” The Court of Appeal discharged him and asked them to go back and determine the charges that are not determined, some charges were off course dropped . The Ohanaeze , particularly in the North has taken a stand and said if the federal government wants peace and development as well as consider South East as a corporate part of Nigeria, then Nnamdi Kanu should be released.

If the federal government wants Sam Ekpa to be , caged, and want the youths to be appeased and happy then Kanu should be released. If the federal government wants economic development in the zone he should be released because he has become a metaphor, if they attack the military, they say it is because Kanu is not released.

“The Federal government should release Kanu, there is nothing to loose if he is released, off course, the court has resolved that the federal government and Kanu should go and resolve out of Court politically, it is now under the purview of the federal government to say that my citizen was wrongly incarcerated and release him, when that happens, there will be joy, happiness and instant peace and the South East will regard it as one of the achievements of president Tinubu government for the region”

Dismissing speculations that the South East governors were behind the continued incarceration of Kanu, Bar Amechi said the governors have nothing to gain in working against his release.

” I am privileged to attend meeting where the governors were present, I don’t share in that view. What do they want to benefit, the governors want peace, everyone of them wants peace and wants Kanu to be released so that there will be peace.

Recently, they rose from their meeting and called for the release of Kanu. It is my view that releasing Kanu will bring , peace, development, cohesion, security and making the state governable. He is not a threat, he is not going to contest for any election”

On state creation from the South East region , he stated that any of the proposed state that meets constitutional requirement should be created.
