As the planned nationwide protest begins today, August 1st, 2024, the African Descendants in Diaspora Union, AFRIDU, has called on the protesters not to undermine the national infrastructure in the course of their actions.

Diplomatic Administrator of AFRIDU in Nigeria, Dr Onwubuya Abraham Breakforth, in a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja, warned organizers of the protest against allowing the hooligans and hoodlums to hijack the processes, which according to him may lead to national disaster and complete state of breakdown of law and order.

The statement reads, “African Descendants in Diaspora Union/ AFRIDU, a registered Diplomatic International Civil society Organization in Nigeria hereby commensurate with Nigerian masses and the teaming youths of Nigeria on the planned hunger protest tomorrow.

“We understand , it’s their right to Protest but that must be done with extreme caution, not to undermine the national infrastructures by allowing the hooligans and hoodlums to hijack the processes that may lead to national Disaster and complete state of breakdown of law and order.

“To this end, AFRiDU appeals to the Organizers of the planned Protest to carry out the protest within the ambit of the Law … While requesting the Federal Government of Nigeria to do everything possible to address the demands of the protesters towards delivering the dividends of democracy for the good masses of Nigeria and national development.

“As AFRiDU engages in collaboration with all relevant agencies of government to host the Homecoming of 2000 African Descendants In Diaspora ( 6th Region) and the global Economic -Investment Summit from 10th to 19th October 2024, for cultural, economic integration and stronger ties with African Diasporas for National development, hence the protest will not do Nigeria and Nigerians good in the eyes of the international communities and the African Descendants who are coming for the dual Citizenship and massive investment for Africa.

“Therefore, the planned protest should be handled with almost carefulness by both the Government and the organizers of the hunger protest not to destroy the glorious future of our Nation, while noting the government efforts to address all the lingering economic challenges.”
