Power reforms: It’s now time for action, Adelabu

.…As NEMSA emphasizes stakeholders collaboration to shape power sector

The Federal Government, on Thursday, reiterated its resolve to translate various discussions and opinions held towards evolving a rubout reforms in the power sector of the economy into action.

The government stressed further that it has reached a pivotal moment where the time for action has arrived.

Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who said this while speaking at the 4th edition of the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria, PICAN, workshop in Abuja, said the citizens, industries, and economy are demanding for results now, adding, they are no longer interested in waiting for promises.

Adelabu, who was represented at the workshop themed, “The Power Sector: Ending the Talk, Time for Action” , by the Director, Renewable and Rural Power Access department of the ministry, Engr Sunday Owolab said the theme is not only timely but crucial for the growth and sustainability of our nation’s energy future.

He said, “For many years, we have had discussions, deliberations, and strategic dialogues on the challenges facing the power sector.

“We have heard the calls for reform, the promises of growth, and the visions of a brighter energy future. Yet, it is clear that words alone will no longer suffice. We have reached a pivotal moment where the time for action has arrived.

“Our citizens, industries, and economy can no longer wait for promises; they demand results.The government remains fully committed to transforming Nigeria’s power sector through meaningful and actionable reforms.

“We are focused on ensuring that our policies are not only visionary but also practical, impactful, and sustainable.

“From the ongoing efforts to address infrastructure gaps, enhance power generation, and improve transmission networks, to the vital reforms in distribution and the full implementation of the electricity market, we are resolute in our mission to improve the power supply for every Nigerian.

“As we transition from words to action, I call on all stakeholders, including investors, regulators, and yes, the medi represented here by the Power Sector Correspondents Association to play their critical roles in this transformation.

“Your work in informing the public, holding us accountable, and providing constructive feedback is essential as we strive to build a resilient power sector that meets the needs of our growing nation.Let us be clear: the road ahead will not be without challenges, but it is a road we must walk together.

“By embracing innovation, strengthening collaborations, and focusing on implementation, we will make the transition from talk to action.”

In his remarks earlier, Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Office of Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) & Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, emphasized on collaboration among the key players to shape Nigeria’s Power sector.

He also stressed on shared mission of the agency to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable power to all Nigerians.

He said, “The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) is steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the efficient production of safe, reliable and sustainable Electricity supply.

“The media, represented here by PCAN, plays a crucial role in creating awareness, disseminating accurate information, and fostering transparency within the industry.

“You are the bridge between the sector and the public, and your work in reporting and educating the public on power-related issues is invaluable.”

Tahir added that, “This year has seen various challenges and milestones in our sector, from the rapid expansion of infrastructure to the modernization efforts aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and safety across the country.

“NEMSA has been proactive in addressing these challenges, and we have made significant strides in electrical safety and quality management to support the stability and reliability of our power systems.

“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that every Nigerian has access to safe electricity, and to protect lives and property by upholding quality standards in the sector.

“We are also keen on strengthening partnerships with other stakeholders. Together we believe we can make further strides in promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, and responsibility. “
