ABUJA: In line with global practices for the digitalization of sporting infrastructure, the National Sports Commission is collaborating with Galaxy Backbone to digitalize stadium facilities and sporting infrastructures across the country.

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, disclosed this while receiving members of Galaxy Backbone during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Stadium in Abuja recently.

Mallam Dikko stated that the world is evolving with time, and the vision of his administration is to ensure that all stadia and sporting infrastructure are energized and fully ICT-compliant, in line with global practices.

He emphasized that one of the key foundations for hosting world-class global events is the digitalization of all stadia facilities and infrastructure.

He further noted that, as a country, we should not be left behind and must focus on strengthening our domestic sports systems before aiming for international success.

He assured the Galaxy Backbone team of the Commission’s commitment to partnering with them, particularly as preparations for the National Sports Festival intensify, emphasizing that all twelve venues for the festival must be digitalized.

With that all events of the festival will be streamed live and can be viewed from any part of the world like the Olympics and other international games.

The Chairman highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision is for the country to establish at least six standard and world-class stadia capable of hosting international events across the six geopolitical zones.

Dikko stressed the importance of upgrading major sporting infrastructure, ensuring they are equipped with stable and consistent ICT solutions as part of their modernization efforts.

The Chairman further explained that with ICT infrastructure in place, additional opportunities, such as online games like E-Games, could be introduced in various centers. This, he noted, would allow young people to engage in these activities for both recreational and commercial benefits.

Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the Galaxy Backbone team, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, expressed the organization’s readiness to partner with the Commission in the digital transformation of stadia across the country.

He stated that as a Federal Government-owned organization, Galaxy Backbone is committed to providing connectivity, which is vital to all aspects of life.

He emphasized that sports, being a significant sector, should not be left behind in this transformation.
