Study more to catch up with emerging technologies, SGoF charges surveyors

Abuja: The Surveyor General of the Federation, SGOF, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has charged surveyors to embark on further studies to acquaint themselves with the technological advancement in the surveying profession.

Adebomehin, who gave the charge during the conference of Zonal Directors and Chief Resident Surveyors noted that taking advantage of the advancement of technology will aid them in their career and to be able to talk like a professional and authority in their chosen field.

The conference with the theme: The Future of Work : Adapting to Changes in the Geopsatial Ecosystem and the Public Service according to the statement issued by Head (Information and Public Relations) Henry David was held at the SURCON chambers in Abuja .

Surv. Adebomehin in his welcome address said We are taking a detour from the way we used to do things before now and one of the salient issues before us is , what we were taught in the school is not what its appealing to now ‘

According to him, “We have equipment now that predetermine our locations, that predetermine our position, and all what we are saying is that job which belong to you as a surveyor, which belong to me as a surveyor, how can you impact this on humanity, keep all those data, keep all those Information and use it to give us decision on needs “

He therefore, charged the surveyors to go for further studies in order for them to be able to take advantage of the advancement of technology that will aid them their career and to be able to talk like a professional and authority in their chosen field.

”The breakdown is that we have technological advances as one of the future of our work which we all have to go and equip ourselves with , the second one is that you should live up to expectations when you are representing us in the state , please , do that for us”, he advised the participants

Surv. Abuduganiyu gave further advice, “wherever we find ourselves we should always keep to the civil service reform so that we can take the opportunity within the system, in order not to be relegated to the background”

In his remarks earlier the Director (Infrastructure Surveys) at the Office of the Surveyor–General of the Federation (OSGOF) Surv. Onyekwere C Nwogu in his opening remarks said ‘Surveyor General is doing everything necessary within the budgetary provision to revamp the zonal headquarter and field offices this is evident in the completed and the ongoing physical development projects across the nation “.

He said, It was also worthy of note that Surveyor General was very passionate about capacity building , several staff members through sponsorship are undergoing post graduate and master’s degree programmes at African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Techonlogy (Afrigist)

Surv. Onyekwere urged the Zonal Directors and the Chief Resident Surveyors to see the conference as catalyst for a positive transformation, adding, ‘Productivity is not about achieving more but achieving better. “

Surv. Sylvester Okafor a Director in the OSGOF office who was also present at the event enjoined the Chief Resident Surveyors to be good ambassador of the SGOF .

He said, “You are representing SGOF in your state and that is why you have to build yourself because you will also benefit from it after service. “

To increase the knowledge base of the participants, they were enlightened on civil service , professionalism and ICT.

Meanwhile, the Zonal Director of North East Surv. Magaji Salisu Datti, who spoke on behalf of the participants said, “The conference has prepared us to do our work efficiently and it shall be so sustained and we shall take the messages down to our different zones “
