Asaba Court fixes April 10, 2025 to rule on bail application on Ovie of Evwren

A Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, the Delta State capital has adjourned to 10th April 2025 to deliver ruling on a bail application brought by Chief Albert Akpomudje, SAN, on Ogenekevwe Owini Kumani the Ovie of Evwreni and 5 others.
Arguing a motion by the Senior Advocate against the trial of the traditional ruler and others, he said, since other 5 defendants are nowhere to be found addimg that the court cannot proceed on the trial of the six persons
He submitted that it is trite law that in a case like this, every party must be in court before trial commence.
Opposing the application, Counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation Mr Sani Bagodu objected to the motion brought by the Senior Advocate which he said is defect in law.
He said the other 5 persons that have absconded have formerly been removed as defendants, noting that the trial can commence. Mr. Bagodu also objected to the bail application stressing that the defendants may likelihood to temper with recorf of court if granted bail knowing the nature of the offense.
He submitted strongly that the crime allegedly committed by the traditional rulers and other defendants is a grievous offence.
Haven listen to both parties, the judge ruled that the traditional ruler and the ,five defendants should be tried. He therefore adjourned to 10th of April 2025 for ruling on the bail application.
Also he said the matter shall be given accelerated hearing and fixed 5th, 6th and 7th of June 2025 for commencement of the trial.
Those charged along with the traditional ruler are Ogenekevwe Owini Kumani Mr. K.K. kumani, hon Samuel MARIERE, John Iyu, Arue Odeimor and Ochuko Kumani.
