Amabiri Urges Youths to Embrace Sports for Education, Career Growth

A Chieftain of All People’s Congress, (APC), DR Asorbor Amabiri, has admonished the youths to be actively involved in sports to enhance their physical and mental well-being as sports and education were inter-twined.

Amabiri, speaking at Awobu Primary School, Akugbene Community, Bomadi local Government Area, during her 27th Inter – House Sports competition, encouraged young ones to actively participate in sports, describing it as a vital tool for personal and societal development.

Represented by Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS John Tekeme, Dr. Amabiri, as the Chairman of the occasion, Amabiri, said, “One of the prominent attributes essential in education is the ability to face challenges, and participating in sports enhances that trait.”

He further stated that inter-house sports activities help build both intellectual ability and physical aptitude while fostering talent discovery that could lead to professional careers in sports.

The Chairman highlighted the role of sports in developing a healthy team spirit, sportsmanship, and fair play, which are crucial for societal progress, adding that it is a lucrative profession capable of transforming their lives in future.

 

“We are not just celebrating competition but also teamwork, perseverance, and healthy rivalry that shape young minds. We encourage them to give their best, strive for excellence, and learn valuable life lessons through sports,” he added.

He expressed gratitude to His Royal Majesty Pere S.P. Luke, Kalanama VIII, and other community leaders for their unwavering support.

He also commended the school’s management for organizing a successful event, emphasizing that such activities strengthen unity and uphold the legacy of Awobu Primary School.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Teibogren Ebi-Erefa, also underscored the importance of sports in fostering friendship, building a healthy mindset, and providing global career opportunities.

She urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to participate in sporting events.

She passionately appealed to the relevant authorities for infrastructural development, including additional classrooms, school fence reconstruction for security, modern toilets, and improved sports facilities to further encourage students.

In the keenly contested competition, Yellow House emerged as the overall winner with 297 points, followed by White House in second place and Green House in third position.

The event ended on a high note, with cheers and excitement from pupils, teachers, and guests alike.
