Ezenekwe Seeks Abolition of Eze Igbo title in Diaspora

President General of the Igbo Community Assembly, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Engr. Ikenna Ezenekwe has advocated for the scrapping of the Eze Igbo title in Diaspora, saying that it negates the tradition and culture of kingship in Igbo land.
Ezenekwe spoke at the weekend while reacting to the attack of the palace of Eze Igbo Ghana recently by the indigenes following the acquisition of heckters of land by the diasporan monarch.
Ezenekwe while condemning the attack noted that abolishing the Eze Igbo title in Diaspora in accordance with the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo recommendation will go a long way in averting such unwarranted crisis with the Igbo’s and their host communities.
He charged the Igbo’s in Diaspora to live in harmony with their host communities as well as respect the culture and traditions of the host communities.
He blamed the over bearing attitude of the diasporan monarch in their host communities as the Major cause of such crisis .
The Igbo leader insisted that there was no need of Eze Igbo title outside Igboland as every autonomous community in Igbo land has it’s traditional ruler that covers every Igbo sons and daughters wherever they resides.
He added that Eze Igbo title in Diaspora be replaced with the office of President General and Council of Elders as recognized in Igbo land customs and tradition as well as state governments to administer the affairs of Igbo in Diaspora.
Ezenekwe said ” The problem is this Eze Igbo title in Diaspora , some people wants to be Eze in foreign land, of you want to be Eze go to your autonomous community and contest, the over reaching and over bearing attitude of some of these Eze’s in Diaspora have not helped matters. The Ohaneze Ndi Igbo had recommended for the scrapping of Eze Igbo title in Diaspora and that is where I stand. It should be scrapped.
” We have to go with Ohaneze Ndi Igbo stand, we don’t need Eze Igbo title in Diaspora when we have our Ezes in our home land . The President General and Council of Elders should replace Eze Igbo title in Diaspora to administer the affairs of Igbo’s in Diaspora.”
