The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has dissociated himself from news report, where he purportedly affirmed one Chief Emmanuel Amushie as the authentic Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Imo State.
Atiku Abubakar in the rebuttal issued through his Special Assistant on Special Duties/Diaspora Affairs, Chief Anthony Onwuka, described the news item published by an online blogger, the Ekwutos Blog, as the figment of imagination of the writer.
He added that at no time did the former Vice President nor his proxy affirm anyone as Chairman of the ADC in any state, let alone Imo State.
Citing a photograph which the said state chairman had with the former number two citizen, the statement said merely granting one the permission to have a photo session with one does not amount to an endorsement and warned the public to discountenance such falsehood as the handwork of mischief makers.
The statement said the party was now more pre-occupied with registering new members and getting more visibility across the length and breadth of the country pointing out that the former Vice President would not want to involve himself in acts that would jeopardize the chances of the party in future elections.
It advised parties engaged in leadership tussle in that state to bury the hatchet and form a formidable front for the overall benefit of the ADC and in the interest of the Nigerian nation.
It concluded that leaders of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, including Atiku Abubakar, have been meeting to strategize on the forthcoming elections and misinformation such as this are only but unnecessary distractions which the party would not want to have for now, and certainly not in the nearest future.
