A former National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, chieftain in the June 12 struggle , Alhaji Mumakai Unagha has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently fixed the nation’s economy to allow the spirit of late Chief M.k.O Abiola the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential to rest in peace.

Alhaji Unagha made the remarks, while speaking to newsmen in Warri, Delta State during the weekend.

He warned the spirit of late Chief M.k.O Abiola, the winner of the June 12 election will not rest until the present government do the needful by fixing the nation’s economy.

The former Delta State Deputy Coordinator of NADECO, expressed shock over the worsening state of the nation’s economy, noting that “This is not the democracy they labored and people died for.”

According to him, ‘This is not the spirit and thinking of those of us who sacrificed everything and lives in the June 12 agitation. ”

He noted that they never never anticipated that at anytime a bag of cement will rise to N11,000 and 50kg of rice N70,000 to N80,000.

The human rights activist stated further that though he will not support military intervention simply because of economic and political hardship the country is passing through, he however appealed to the president to sit tight to address the challenges before it will be too late.

He said “Nigeria has never had it so bad since independence,” stressing that, “The government should not wait for people uprising before doing the needful.”

“People are dying on a daily basis due to frustration and hunger as a result of bad policies, especially the removal of the fuel subsidy and therefore the federal government should reverse its decision on the subsidy.

“The federal government should not wait for toothache long before reverting the decision because the democracy which some of us fought and labored for has become uninteresting,” he warned.

Alhaji Unagha expressed concern that large proportion of official’s in the present administration where members of (NADECO) one is therefore wondering the derailment from the ideology of, NADECO.

He advised the Federal Government to discontinue the use of US Dollars as official currency in Nigeria,a major factor, which according to him is responsible for current inflation and hardship in the country
