A former presidential Aspirant in the 2019 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha has called for the abrogation of the House of Representatives as means of cutting down the cost of governance.
Alhaji Mumakai Unagha stated this when he was feilding questions from journalist.
He said the functions of the House of Representatives is not only economic wastage, adding that it is a duplication to the function of Senate. He added that Nigeria democracy does not require House of Representatives.
According to him, implementation of Oronsaye report will not be completed if the House of Representatives is not abolish.
He maintaned that the Americans that practice democracy, it’s operational system and functions are far from the democracy we practiced here in Nigeria stressing that it requires overhauling or restructuring as recommend by the Oronsaye committee.
The Niger Delta leader commended President Tinubu for revisiting the Oronsaye report which he described as one of the major way of addressing the current economic hardship in the country.
He stated that the committee report is not overtaken by events or cosmetic, describing it as the right time.
