Census 2023 results to be out within 30 days—NPC

Basking in euphoria of technology in its disposal, the National Population Commission, NPC, has expressed optimism that the preliminary results of the 2023 digital population and housing census will be made public within 30 days.

Recall the Commission, has consistently reassured Nigerians that it will conduct a first digital housing and population census in Nigeria that would be credible and acceptable to both Nigerians and the international community.

The Commission recently organized a 3-Day capacity building workshop for population correspondents on the 2023 Population and Housing Census tagged “Getting the People Involved.”

Giving an insight into what to be expected, the Census Manager, at the Commission, Inuwa Jalingo disclosed that no fewer than 1.5 million Nigerians would recruited for the exercise.

He explained that the 1.5 million ad-hoc staff to be hired through e-recruitment exercise would undergo digital training ahead of the 2023 housing and head count.

The 2023 head count exercise will be Nigeria’s first digital census in planning and execution which implies a change in how data on population and housing information are to be captured.

Jalingo, who noted the demography is pure science, added the the Commission will be deploying electronic data collection technology for the 2023 census exercise

According to him, Nigerians will be trained in all categories and will address as census functionaries.

He said “1.5-2million Nigerians will be trained digitally for the 2023 population and housing census. They will be trained in all categories of census activities.

“We are going to put in facilitators from the academics. They are going to translate that information to their students so a lot of capacity will be built.”

Jalingo disclosed further that the commission is currently having engagement with academia drawn from major universities and other higher institutions of learning across the country to brainstorm on how to achieve credible census figure for the country.
