TARABA POLITICS: The need for maintaining a seamless zoning of office of gubernatorial candidates in 2027 and beyond.

3 min read

This thesis may at first sound unconventional to unserious politicians in Taraba State. Yes, it is true that the various political parties have their
constitutions and manifestoes.

But the question is how many of our political parties follow their constitutions and manifestoes believed to have beenproduced by them? This is why most of their party crisis always end at the various courts for final decisions.

It is thus inimical for our politicians to approve their party constitutions only to set these aside and approach the courts and lawyers for final decisions!

The implication here is that political party constitutions even in the whole country, have failed to provide harmonious atmosphere for contestants in the country since 1992 to date.

One may wish to cite the case of the United Kingdom who bestowed
the parliamentary system of government to Nigeria culminating in the 1963
constitution for independent Nigeria. Britain is operating what may be termed an unwritten constitution but very effective to date.

NEED FOR A PARADIGM SHIFT IN POLITICAL ARRANGEMENT BY
ALL PARTIES IN TARABA STATE.

It will be interesting to recast our minds back into the political struggles by
our politicians in Taraba State since 1992 to date.

His Excellency, Governor
Jolly Nyame ruled the state on three occasions totaling between ten to
eleven years. He came from the Northern Senatorial zone and handed to His Excellency Late Governor Danbaba. D Suntai in 2004.

Governor Danbaba from the central was on his second term before he crashed his airplane and became incapacited. Two politicians namely Senator Sani Danladi Abubakar and Governor U.T. C. completed the trajectory.

These two gentlemen who came in for Danbaba were all from the Northern
Senatorial zone as His Excellency, Jolly Nyame.

Of course, these results were not seriouslya product of party constitutional arrangements but what
one may call trial and errors or gentlemen arrangement by some of the stakeholders.

Then came His Excellency former governor Darius D Ishaku fromn the
southern Taraba. He, for want of a better term successfully managed the
state for eight years. He was succeeded by His Excellency Agbu Kefas who has just barely ruled the state for twO years. He is from Southern Taraba.

After the end of Governor Daruis’s regime, it was understood that each of
the three senatorial zones in the state had tasted leadership for eight years
in the least.

Logically, but nothing to do with constitutional provision of any party in the state, the next round of a magical eight (8) years tenure has
started with Governor Agbu Kefas coming from the Southern zone.

Ordinarily, by this gesture, the southern zone commenced this circle of
another eights years while the central and northern zones should wait but
criticize where necessary for good of the citizens.

Not minding whose ox in gored, it has been observed that no zone is comfortable with the lack of physical transformation of the state under the leadership of Governor Kefas. Yes, the race has began badly but all pointers are accusing the leadership for these inert failures.

The need for a paradigm shift for another candidate from southern Taraba becomes imperative to complete the second four years coming from 2027. The issues as to whether it will be another P.D.P candidate or A.P.C to ensure this paradigm shift should be left to the southern zone to sort out.

All we in Southern Taraba are appealing is for an understanding and support of this thesis. Further appeal here is that the Southern zone does not lack versatile personalities who have been tested politically, developmentally as well in the field of philanthropism.

Some of them have impacted well on the lives and destines of the people of Taraba. In all cases, the experiences of some of these people from the southern part have became household names.

It may interest readers that some of the prominent personalities we have in mind have never been elected into an elective offices but have served the people transparently wherever they had been appointed.

Experience and dedication are thus not in short supply.

At this stage, one may wish to borrow from the pragmatic and strategic
philosophy of the famous Italian diplomat Mr. Niccolo Michiavelli that a
successful political strategy will ensure the end justifying the means.
Thanks for understanding.

Concerned Taraba Citizen.
