The presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party, SDP, for 2023 presidential election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has blamed leadership failures for intensed security challenge ravaging the soul of the country
Prince Adebayo noted that there is nothing fantastic about Nigeria and her leadership except that Nigerian leadership have not allowed the fear of God to dwell in it, hence the drift to state of quagmire and anarchy currently plaguing the land.
The SDP Presidential standard bearer made the remarks, while addressing newsmen shortly after he led his Vice Presidential candidate, party executives, presidential campaign team and other supporters on a visit to the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Reverend Sampson Ayokunle at Royal Choice Hotel, in Abuja.
According to Adebayo, the continuous spate of insecurity in the country showed the insensitive nature of the country’s leadership.
Speaking on the visit which centred on the worsening insecurity situation in the land, among other burning national issues, Adebayo lamented that the near absence of government emboldened the terrorists’ activities to thrive in the country.
He said the government has shut itself down in the last seven years
Answering question on directive on immediate closure of Federal Government Colleges in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, by the Ministry of Education over security threats, Prince Adebayo said, “Before the schools were shut down, the first thing that was shut down was the presidency.”
According to him, “The presidency has been shut down for the past seven years. The government has shut itself down. If we are not careful, the government will be the bandits and the bandits will be arresting the government.
“We need to be serious and the do the work. We need our people to pay attention, we need the President to protect us and be the Commander-in-Chief.”
He said until there is honest and purposeful leadership, the country might just still continue to grapple with almost the challenges it is presently facing, adding that only the person with capacity and capability can bring the country out of the woods.
“All the problems, the latest of which is banditry and our debt servicing being bigger than our income, are all arising from the deficit of our dishonesty that we are not honest people.
“That when we are given authority to exercise, we don’t do it honestly. If we change our ways, God’s blessing will be upon us. There is no mystery about leadership in Nigeria.
“It is just that the right leader must come with the right heart, with the right people,” he added.
In his remarks, the CAN President, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, emphasized on the need to elect the right leader who will make Nigeria work better.
He pointed out that, “There is need to elect the right person who will make Nigeria work better and transform its fortunes for the benefit of all.
“We need as many people as God has touched to contest for the presidency so that people have ample opportunities and choices to choose from.”
